Active Ministries
Good Shepherd Ministries
- Help cook/serve meals, collect shoes for every
guest at Christmas, donate supplies
Interfaith Hospitality Network
- Host families for 4 weeks at church every year.
Serve as overnight hosts, set-up/take down
help, dinner cooks or hosts, and drivers
Curbside Café
- 5-10 people prepare food every other Thursday at
our church and serve it in the parking lot of
the Mercy House homeless shelter to their
guests.
Salvation Army
- Our circles help each Christmas with their Angel
Tree program, and members fill stockings with
gifts for children in the community.
Kairos Prison Ministry
- A small group trains for and participates in two
weekend retreats at a local prison each year.
Members of the congregation support this
ministry by baking 12 dozen cookies per
participant, and children make placemats.
Willow Pond Christmas Tree
- The youth purchase trees and decorations for
families who live in this complex and are fleeing
situations of domestic abuse.
Children At Risk – Cub Scouts
- We are sponsoring a new cub scout troop for at
risk youth, recruiting leaders, and contributing
financially.
Ocean House
- We sponsor 4 parties each year at our
church for the participants in this program
who are mentally challenged.
China
- Our trip to China in October 2010 will serve as a way for members of First Presbyterian Church to meet the Chinese Christians and worship in China and explore the cultural highlights of China while developing our mutual partnership and friendship with the Church in Jiangyin. First Presbyterian and the Church in Juangyin have certainly maintained a bond and friendship that has lasted 115 years and we invite you to be a part of this renewed friendship and to help us strengthen our mutual partnership in Christ.
- In 2007 a mission team traveled to Jangygin,
China to renew a relationship with the church
founded by a missionary from our church. We
are partnering with church leaders in that area
to help further the training of lay leaders and
pastors by contributing funds, and helping to
sponsor a training school. We continue to
make plans to visit this area and we also hosted
a delegation from China at our church in 2008.
United CampusChristianMinistry
- We have church members on the board, and
contribute financially. There are opportunities
to serve meals at the fellowship meetings.
Congo
- Our church has an official relationship with
missionaries Mike & Nancy Haninger. We have
given financially to projects including mosquito
nets, moringa trees, and health services.
One-time/On-hold Ministries
Haiti
- Our partnership and travels to Haiti have been
on hold for the past 3 years due to unstable
political situations. In the past, medical and
work teams made yearly trips.
Tabasco, Mexico
- The Presbytery of Coastal Carolina has
established a partnership with the presbytery in
the area of Mexico. In 2007, a mission team
toured this area to make personal connections
and find opportunities for us to serve.
Bolivia
- We support 4 girsl in connection with an
orphanage where one of our members spent
some time. In 2006, a medical and work mission
team traveled to the orphanage for a week.
Nicaragua
- We sent a refrigerator to an orphanage
recommended to us by a member.
Other Involvement
Presbytery
- We support the ministries of this Presbytery.
Pastors Fund
- The staff distributes funds to individuals
seeking aid.
Carousel Center
- We have supported this organization that
works with sexually abused children with
financial gifts.
Rios Family
- Church members continue working closely with
this family whom we sponsored through a
refugee resettlement program.

Domestic Mission Trips
Mississippi
- Two adult teams and one youth team have
visited this region in the wake of Katrina to
provide hurricane relief from 2005 -
2007.
Iowa
- An adult mission team traveled to this state
to provide flood relief to affected areas in
2008.
Youth Trips
- Each summer our middle and high school
youth travel to domestic and international
destinations engaging in mission work.
Angel Tree
- Each year in November, members of the
congregation provide Christmas gifts for
children all around the community. Names are
gathered from a number of different
community service organizations and gifts are
distributed in time for Christmas.
Back to School
- Members purchase school supplies that are
distributed to local area schools.
Operation Christmas Child
- The youth sponsor this project where members
fill shoeboxes with gifts and toys that are
distributed around the world by Samaritan’s
Purse.
Blood Drive
- Twice a year we sponsor a blood drive at the
church for the Red Cross.
Food Drive
- Twice a year we collect canned goods for
surrounding community service organizations.
Potential Ministries
Grandparents Program
- Each Thursday night this group meets in Boney
Hall with kids, youth and their grandparents
who have become their primary caregivers.
Childcare volunteers, mentors, and food
donations are all needed.
Habitat for Humanity
- We have sponsored and helped build homes in
the past.
Hospice
- Circles provide food for the care center.
