CHLDREN/YOUTH
The musical offerings for children and youth at First Presbyterian are an integral part of the life of our music program and church as well as an integral part of the lives of our children and youth. Music through the ages has been an inextricable part of our lives as a Christian community, and it is a valuable tool for learning teamwork, leadership, worship, and spiritual and biblical truths. In addition to singing/ringing in worship approximately once per month during the choir term, the choirs participate in the annual Service of Advent Lessons and Carols, the 6:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Service, and at other special events, services and festivals. The choirs also enjoy social activities throughout the year including a pool party at the beginning of the year, a Christmas Party, and a bowling party at the end of the year. All children and youth are encouraged to participate in either or both offerings for their age group.
First and Second Grade
Kirk Choir
The Kirk Choir is primarily a training choir in which choristers learn fundamentals of music, singing and the role of leadership in worship. The Kirk Choir rehearses each Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 - 4:55, September through April.
Handchimes
Handchimes is an introduction to ringing. Led by Catherine Charles, this group meets each Wednesday afternoon from 5:00 - 5:45, September through April.
Third through Twelfth Grade
Girls and Boys Youth Choir*
The Girls and Boys Youth Choir is the more advanced choir in the program and sings a diverse repertoire of music. This choir rehearses each Wednesday afternoon from 5:00 - 6:00, September through April. *High schoolers may also participate in the Chancel Choir offering on Thursday evening.
Handbells
Handbells for this age group is offered each Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 - 4:55, September through April. This offering is led by John Tabler.
YOUTH/ADULT
High School through Adult
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir sings for the 11:00 worship service (10:00 during summer) excepting Sundays when the children and youth choirs lead in worship. Additonally, the Chancel Choir sings for other special events, services and concerts throughout the choir season. The Chancel Choir rehearses on Thursday evening from 7:15 - 9:00, September through May, and at 9:00 on Sunday mornings, June through August. Participants do not need to be acomplished singers.
Children and Youth choir rehearsals begin on August 31
Chancel Choir resumes Thursday evening rehearsals on September 1.
