Weddings and Baptisms

WEDDINGS Thompson-Dawson 4Weddings at First Presbyterian Church are a Service of Worship and include most of the elements found in any worship service in this church. We believe that Christian marriage is a covenant between two people who are in covenant with God. Wedding policies shall, therefore, follow the criteria established by the Book of Order. BAPTISMS BHP_6047 -Baptismal Font Resized for Web The Sacrament of Baptism, the sign and seal of God’s grace and our response, is the foundational recognition of Christian commitment. We at First Presbyterian Church strongly adhere to the guidelines of the Book of Order of the Presbyterian Church as stated in the Directory of Worship. We openly welcome infants, youth, and adults who have not been baptized previously to partake of this Sacrament. When a child is being presented for Baptism, ordinarily the parent(s) or one(s) rightly exercising parental responsibility shall be an active member of the congregation. Those presenting children for baptism shall promise to provide nurture and guidance within the community of faith until the child is ready to make a personal profession of faith and assume the responsibility of active church membership. The Session may also consider a request for baptism of a child from a Christian parent who is an active member of another congregation. Levine, Hadley 3Prior to the age of a public profession of faith, any young person wishing to be baptized for the first time is welcomed provided parental guidance is present. Adults are welcomed to be baptized at First Presbyterian Church. Believer baptism is an important element in professing one’s faith. For more information email the church office.
